2007 saw over 4100 tonnes of American used tyres finding their way into end-use markets, this amounted to *nearly 90% of the scrap tyres they generated. This figure was incidentally the largest amount since RMA began recording the data (1994). *
These figures compare favourably to 2005 when 82% and in 1990 11% of tyres were reused respectively. An increase in tyre generation from 2005 and 2007 can be partly be accounted for by the rise in the U.S population, this rise has a consistent trend to it.
The dominant consumer of used tyres is the Tyre-Derived Fuel market accounting for 52.8% of all reused tyres, 16.8% are used in Ground Rubber while 12.6% are used in Land Disposal and 11.9% in Civil Engineering (2007).
