A plan derived seven years ago in South Africa is finally about to become reality. The tyre manufacturing industry along with department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, suppliers and dealers spent the time agreeing to a process of how to best recycle the waste.
The main outcome was to prevent the creation of a new black market for waste tyres where criminals would be tempted to steal tyres in return for money, therefore the tyres themselves would not be purchased by the recycling plant and thus have no street value.
New jobs would be created in the recycling plants and within the transport of the waste tyres to the processing plants. The tendering process for the transport contracts would provide black South Africans with the opportunity to enter the recycling process in cooperation with the Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) moral initiative.
