Solutions are not always high cost!The owner of a bicycle shop in India derived a good use for the left over tyre inner tubes from his bicycle shop. The idea came to him that they could be used to protect tree saplings and replace the conventional metal cages that do not prevent theft or vandalism. The rubber protection allows adequate sunlight and shade and have been placed around 100 trees so far!

It seems that Japans new generation are becoming increasingly environmentally aware. A new brand called ‘Zero’ have created a range of mobile phone cases, straps and cleaners from recycled tyre inner tubes. However the youth need to be convinced that they are not just a new fashion statement. The products are the complete opposite of Japanese culture as they are handmade as opposed to robotised goods, yet they ‘slot neatly into today’s Japanese society’.
